New Year Same God

As we begin the new year, we usually make plans, goals, and resolutions. I do it too. I set some new goals sometimes but also revisit ones that I’ve made before to make sure I am still working toward what I need to. I am a firm believer that you can make goals when ever you want. It doesn’t have to be a new year for you to start something new or to make goals.

I recently had a conversation with a good friend, and we were discussing how we do resolutions and whatnot. She doesn’t make resolutions but sits and finds a word she believes God has given her for the new year. I had never done that, but I do have a word for this year. We each discussed our words with each other and what that might mean for each of us for the new year. Do you do resolutions, goals, or words for a new year?

When I was driving into town on Wednesday, I listened to the song Same God by Elevation Worship twice. It was a song that I just needed to soak in, I guess. Well, while I was standing there cooking food at a bread of life ministry that I do I heard the song a few more times. When I got in my car again to leave in the afternoon, I felt lead to listen to the song again and it hit me. Yes, we are all celebrating the new year and focusing on things that we want or need to change; however, we still serve a God that is the same. The same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. One that is full of grace and mercy and love. A God that loves you despite how much you think you need to change or all the regrets you have from the year before. He is that same God that has shown up time and time again and will continue to throughout this year and all of the coming years.

He will never change. In both Malachi 3:6 and Hebrew 13:8 it says, “Declare that God is the same always and never ever changes. He is always good, always loving, always all-powerful. No matter how this world changes around us, we can trust God is consistent. He is the same yesterday, today, and Forever.”
