I sat down and read the book of Ruth this past weekend. I mean I’ve heard the story of Ruth but never actually sat down and read it for myself. Its a tiny chapter, 3 pages to be exact. When I was done I wrote out the little bit that I learned from the chapter and went along with the evening. I mean I had kind of thought on it, but didn’t seem to feel that there was tons that went on with that. However, I cannot stop thinking about the book of Ruth. The word kindness continues to pop into my head throughout the day. It really hit me hard last night and I was like Oh, I need to write about this. So, here I am. Ruth had made her life around showing kindness to her mother-in-law, Naomi. When she could have left and went back to her family and had everything she needed she chose to go back to where Naomi’s home was and continue to take care of her. Not only did she work in the fields to provide for herself, but also for Naomi. When she had secured her place by having a new husband she also took care of Naomi. When she gave birth to her first born son, she continued to show Naomi love and kindness by giving her a son, so Naomi would always be taken care of. Ruth could have only thought of herself but chose to live a life of kindness. God rewarded her for showing kindness to Naomi. Blessed her life fully and abundantly. Naomi asked the Lord to bless Ruth with the same kindness that she had shown Naomi and the Lord blessed her. I feel that God is saying this week to show kindness. Kindness to everyone you meet. We don’t know what they have dealt with or are currently dealing with, and really that is not our business to know, nor is it why we should be kind. We should be kind because God calls us to be.
This week I hope you show kindness not only to yourself but everyone along the way. I pray that God will reward the kindness you show to others to be shown to you.
XOXO,
Becca
